Today’s post on the Gavel, Speaker Pelosi’s blog, puts the spotlight on two analyses from Chairman Waxman of the Oversight Committee. These analyses say that citizenship documentation requirements (increasing the number and type of docs you need a la real ID and other such proposed measures) has led to US citizens losing their medicaid coverage.
Another report shows that these measures have failed to save taxpayers any money.
From the summary, on the majority staff’s findings:
The staff analysis finds that the DRA documentation requirements have cost significantly more to implement than they have saved in expenditures by excluding undocumented immigrants from Medicaid coverage. For every $100 spent by federal taxpayers to implement the new requirements in six states, only 14 cents in Medicaid savings can be documented.
Across the board we are finding more and more evidence that meausres to increase documentation needs are not only costly, but are dangerous to the very US citizens they purport to protect.
