Highest Court Decision Welcomed, Immigrant Youth Need Permanent Solution
(WASHINGTON)—Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement, FIRM, issued the statement below after the Supreme Court denied the Department of Justice’s request for expedited review of the DACA injunction:
“We welcome the Supreme Court’s decision to keep the Trump administration from fast tracking the fate of DACA and allow the justice system to do its job. The DACA cases will continue to move forward in the lower courts, rebuking Donald Trump’s white supremacy agenda that prioritized removing all people of color from the country. Hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrant youth can still reapply for DACA and continue to live the lives they’ve already built.
However, we continue to fight for permanence and for individuals who can no longer apply for DACA for the first time. Congress must still do its job and pass a permanent solution that will get this generation out of limbo and on a path to citizenship. We’re looking at you Paul Ryan when we say pass the DREAM Act now, or feel our power in the voting booth in November.”
