While wonks and mongers move-on, families say the immigration debate isn't over!

Families Facing Raids & Deportation Converge on Washington DC Demand Pro-Children Fix from All Branches of Gov WHAT: New York and Illinois families with U.S. citizen children whose mother or father face deportation and separation will converge in Washington D.C. to demand emergency relief from all branches of the government. Stating that "the immigration debate is not over for us," the families - alongside religious leaders and other supporters - will hold a prayer vigil in front of the Supreme Court for an emergency injunction; ask members of Congress to pass pro-children immigration bills; and demand an end to ICE raids and deportations.

WHEN: Tuesday, July 17th at 1pm

WHERE: Supreme Court (front steps)

WHO: * Families who are personally surviving Detentions, Deportations and Raids from Families for Freedom (New York), La Familia Latina Unida (Illinois), and others * Religious Leaders of the New Sanctuary Movement * Community Supporters

Comprehensive Immigration Reform may have died, but the struggle for immigrant families lives. On Tuesday, July 17th, families facing deportation and religious leaders building the New Sanctuary Movement around the country are trekking to the Capitol to demand justice from all 3 branches of government. Families whose loved ones are already taking sanctuary will lead the effort. The demands:

CONGRESS: Support pro-children immigration legislation. The Child Citizen Protection Act (HR 1176) is one bill ALREADY in the House with growing sponsorship.  It would allow a judge to consider the best interests of American children before deporting a parent. The Senate must introduce & support it. Lawmakers should also support the DREAM Act, another existing bill that would allow children born abroad but raised here to continue onto college.

COURTS: Two courts have petitions before them concerning the rights of the American-born children of immigrants - the Supreme Court and the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights. Justices from both bodies must place our families on the scales of justice. Everyone deserves a day in court.

EXECUTIVE: Stop the raids & deportations! Enforce workplace rights, not immigration tyranny. The time for a moratorium is now.
