Update: Vigil for Ana Romero Successful

ana-romero-2Friday, a vigil was held to remember Ana Romero, the El Salvadorean immigrant who was mysteriously found hanging in her jail cell 3 months ago. Advocates and immigrants gathered at the Franklin County Jail, where Ana died, to demand justice and a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her tragic death. From the Kentucky Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights:

The Vigil for Justice for Ana Romero celebrating and honoring her life on the third month anniversary of her death held precisely few meters away from where she died, was a complete success: the cold weather and the remote and threatening location could not stop the 200 people who stood on frigid conditions for two hours to offer their warm determination to achieve Justice for Ana and respect for immigrants.

Local and state news covered the vigil and the turnout exceeded expectations. Many of those attending were immigrants, which really evoked a sense of how this injustice affects and entire community. Click here to see a video of live coverage from the vigil.
