The Fruit of Trump’s Hatred is Taking Root

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, August 20, 2015CONTACT: Carlos Vogel, (202) 239-2133,

(WASHINGTON)--The following statement is from Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) in response to the brutal beating of a homeless Latino man by two Trump supporters who stated that they were inspired to act because of his anti-Latino and anti-immigrant views.

“Trump’s racist and hate filled rants, which are relentless, are beginning to have very alarming consequences. They’re moving this country down a dangerous path and have now inspired a vicious crime. The brutal beating of a homeless Latino man by two racist Trump supporters in Boston who were inspired by his vitriol is both outrageous and alarming.

“But what is even more disgraceful is Mr. Trump's praised for his “passionate” supporters’ and their alleged commitment to restoring America to greatness. This contemptible statement affirms that Donald Trump's campaign aims to both encourage hatred towards immigrants and bring out the ugliest, violent side of his most extreme followers.

“What happened in Boston is a hate crime and should be treated as such.  The political debate should not encourage violence and bigotry.  We not only demand the other GOP candidates condemn the beating immediately, but also take stance and work with their Presidential candidates to stop all of the racist, anti-immigrant rhetoric that they are currently espousing.”
