Texas divided over fence
This morning I ran across an article on BIB Daily highlighting the tens of mayors along the border who are opposed to the wall. It made me proud to continue to see leadership from local officials on issues the deeply hurt their community. We often post about looking for leadership among our local elected officials and it's great to give them respect for speaking out for public safety, and the welfare of our communities (and against ineffective and unworkable federal policies). But that's not what this post is about, actually. After I finished the article began to read the comments left behind. I've done my fair share of reading anti-immigrant blogs to see what are people's minds- but it is really interesting to see a conversation between anti-immigrants and immigrant rights advocates on a newspaper's discussion board. Even more importantly, it is good to hear this dialogue coming from a border state itself. It's easy for me to sit thousands of miles away and ridicule the fence, but it's a nother thing to hear Texans talking straight on the issue.
I suggest you take a look at the article and the posts HERE (you have to scroll down a bit to get to the pro-immigrant parts.....)
