Melecio Andazola Morales is Deported Days Before the Holidays

Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), issued the statement below after Denver ICE Field Office Director Jeffrey Lynch denied Melecio Andazola Morales’ stay of removal and he was deported:

“Our hearts break for Melecio Andazola Morales’ wife, mother, and four children. By denying his stay of deportation, Jeffrey Lynch has become the poster child of a rogue ICE officer, acting with impunity in order to shatter immigrant families. For 20 years, Melecio did all that he needed to do to become a lawful, permanent resident. His oldest daughter, who is a student at Yale, had to spend an entire semester fighting to stop her father's deportation. Now instead of celebrating the holidays together—as Lynch and his family will do—Melecio and his family must grieve his deportation and begin to plan for their new reality. This is a moral outrage and we will not forget.

We will continue fighting for families like Melecio’s until all 11 million undocumented immigrants have a pathway to citizenship. We’re not backing down now, or ever.”
