(WASHINGTON)--The following statement is from Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) in response to Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump call for a ban on Muslims entering the United States.
“Trump’s call to ban Muslims from entering the United States is reckless, disturbing, reprehensive, and a dangerous display of hateful political posturing that without doubt, may have very alarming consequences and lead to violence against Muslims.”
“Encouraging hatred towards Muslims and Immigrants in order to bolster his position and continue to build support for his campaign is un-American and outrageous coming from someone who wants to assume the highest office in the country.”
“The political debate should not encourage hatred and bigotry. We not only demand the GOP and other candidates condemn Trump’s actions immediately, but also take stance and work with their Presidential candidates to stop all of the racist, anti-Muslim, anti-Immigrant rhetoric that they are currently espousing.”
