FIRM Statement in response to the acts of violence activists suffered during a protest where GOP presidential Candidate Donald Trump was appearing.
(WASHINGTON)--The following statement is from Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) in response to the acts of violence activists suffered during a protest at the Westgate Casino in Las Vegas where GOP presidential Candidate Donald Trump was appearing. “Donald Trump’s racist and hate-filled rants, which are relentless, disturbing, reprehensible, and dangerous, continue to have very alarming consequences. They’re moving this country down a dangerous path and are now inspiring vicious crimes, including the violence activists suffered during a protest at the Westgate Casino in Las Vegas yesterday where Trump was speaking. The force and verbal abuse they suffered when they were dragged out of the room by Trump supporters is outrageous and alarming.
The continuing acts of violence affirm that Trump's campaign encourages hatred toward immigrants and brings out the ugliest, violent side of his most extreme followers.
The political debate should not encourage violence and bigotry. We not only demand that the other GOP candidates condemn these and other acts of violence immediately, but that they also stand up to stop any racist, anti-immigrant rhetoric.”
