(WASHINGTON)--Today, advocates from the Fair Immigration Reform Movement, (FIRM) the nation's largest immigrant-rights coalition, met with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson.
After the meeting, FIRM released the following statement on behalf of Kica Matos: "Our advocates laid out a plan to update our broken immigration system and curb immigration enforcement that needlessly separates families. With the two-millionth deportation under President Obama upon us, our leaders urged DHS to prepare to do more to stop family separation if Congress doesn't act on immigration by June 27th -- the anniversary of the Senate's passage of bipartisan immigration reform with a path to citizenship.” "Our movement is more energized than ever to bring justice to our communities. We look forward to Secretary Johnson making the necessary changes to update our badly outdated and inhumane immigration system, and we look forward to working with him."
