Fair Immigration Reform Movement Part of Powerful Coalition Launching Immigrant Voter Campaign
Millions Have Been Committed to Register and Mobilize Voters
(WASHINGTON) —The Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) announced today it is part of a powerful coalition aimed at registering and mobilizing millions of immigrant voters, particularly in the key states of Colorado, Nevada and Florida.
FIRM, with its member organizations the Center for Community Change Action (CCCAction), Florida Immigrant Action Committee, Colorado People’s Action, CIRC Action Fund and PLAN Action Nevada, are joining with America’s Voice and the Latino Victory Project to launch the multi-million dollar "Families Fighting Back" campaign, which officially launched today with commitments of millions to fund the effort.
The coalition will work at the national level and in the three states with local partners to not only register and mobilize voters, but to define candidates by their positions on immigration and make sure voters know who stands with immigrants and who stands against them.
“The extremely hateful and dangerous rhetoric coming from some Republican presidential candidates has raised the stakes this election and the immigrant rights movement is once again rising to the call to defeat any candidate who embraces racism and harmful immigration policies,” said FIRM spokesperson Sulma Arias. “There will be 27.3 million Latinos eligible to vote this November and we will make sure they show up on Election Day.”
“Latinos and immigrants will vote in unprecedented numbers because their families are at stake,” stated Maria Rodriguez, Executive Director of the Florida Immigrant Action Committee. “The villains in this story are all those who seek to divide us: politicians who dehumanize immigrant families to score political points; hate-mongers panicked by demographic shifts; and corporations who profit from the detention of our family members. We will be sending a clear message when we vote that we will stand up for our families, our friends, our communities. It has never been more important to naturalize, register, and vote. It has never been more crucial to get politically active in every way possible.”
"The 2016 general election is a referendum on many critical issues that will determine opportunity and family unity for millions of immigrants, Latinos, and Asian Pacific Islander communities," said Alex Alvarado, Treasurer for the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition Action Fund (CIRC Action Fund). "We are ready to mobilize tens of thousands of New American voters in Colorado to stand up to hate and division, and instead endorse a welcoming, inclusive, and prosperous future for the country."
Also as part of this effort, CCCAction is launching the Immigrant Voters Win Super Pac to raise the voices of pro-immigrant voters by registering and mobilizing them on Election Day.
The Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) is the nation’s largest immigrant-rights coalition, with grassroots organizations in more than 40 states fighting for immigrant rights at the local, state and federal level.
