WASHINGTON, D.C. – The following is a statement from Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) in anticipation of the Fox News first 2016 GOP Presidential Debate taking place at 9 p.m. tomorrow in Cleveland, Ohio.
“Latino, Asian, and immigrant families are fighting back against the hate spewing from the far right. We are families. We are voters. We have memories. We are highly engaged in the national debate over immigration reform and expect to hear real solutions for the families that work hard and contribute every day to America’s economy and communities. The enforcement only solution pushed by Mitt Romney played a central role in his defeat and such approached will not work in 2016 either.
“The American people crave real solutions to our broken immigration system. We want to hear what realistic and actionable plan each candidate has that keep families together. We demand nothing less than a commitment to support legislation which includes a path to citizenship that is accessible and viable for the 11 million undocumented in the country as well as policies that preserve family unity as the cornerstone of our nation’s values.
“Spewing hatred to appeal to a narrow class of racist voters is not a strategy worthy of anyone running for President. All Americans expect more.”
