Congress Fails Immigrant Families. Again.

Congress Fails Immigrant Families. Again.

After news broke that the House passed the Senate’s $4.6 billion supplemental funding bill, abandoning the hard fought protections for children in detention the House passed earlier this week, Sulma Arias, spokeswoman for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement, said the following:

“Funding to address the Trump-made chaos and crisis along the southern border should go directly to federal agencies and groups providing real humanitarian aid and helping the families that this administration has turned their back on, not a department responsible for the gross mistreatment of children and families. Instead, Congress has handed Trump a $4.6 billion check to fund his hateful deportation machine without important safeguards to protect children in detention and stop the misuse of funds. This increase in funding follows threats about community raids directly from Trump, and recent discoveries of the deplorable conditions detained children are facing.

Thank you to the Democrats that held firm on their values and voted against providing more funding to Trump without conditions to improve the situation at the border. We see you and we stand with you.

While our families suffer, Congress caved to the demands of white nationalists. Again. We won’t forget.”
