WHAT: Press Conference

A broad based coalition of community based organizations will be joined by members of the clergy, and will host a press conference to announce on-going efforts to win congressional introduction of comprehensive immigration reform.
Last year, President Barack Obama made a solemn pledge to the American people to make sure the Congress received comprehensive immigration reform legislation during the first year of his administration.
Pro immigrant community based organizations, labor unions, students, and now the clergy have devised a strategy where getting the President and Congress to at least introduce immigration reform legislation before the end of the year becomes a priority goal of the highest order.
“The ongoing enforcement only approach directed against undocumented families by the Barack Obama Administration is an ill-guided policy that is unnecessarily dividing families and terrorizing entire communities”, stated Bishop Hector Jerez, a coalition member, and one of its spokespersons.
“We are well aware the President remains committed to having Congress deal with comprehensive immigration reform during his first year in office”, stated Pedro Mejia, the Lynnwood . President of the Hermandad Mexicana Nacional, and another coalition member. “However, we believe we must enlarge our public support of the President. Making his promise a reality as soon as may be possible means a balanced enforcement approach which in the long run does not hurt those we are all trying to support in their already long quest to make sure the Congress reforms our broken immigration laws”, concluded Mr. Mejia
