End Government-Sanctioned Attacks on Families

No more money for Trump’s racist agenda

Washington, DC - FIRM issued the following response as more details emerge about the Congressional deal to fund DHS and Trump’s border wall.

Kica Matos, spokeswoman for FIRM, said:

“Our families continue to be held for ransom as news emerges of a Congressional deal to fund DHS that includes Trump’s wasteful and dangerous border wall and other harmful provisions, including an increase in enforcement money and funding for detention beds.

Enough is enough. It is time for the attacks on our families to stop. Everyday, rogue agents from the Department of Homeland Security terrorize families, separating children from parents, wives from husbands and brothers from sisters. DHS needs to have real limits on the detention and separation of families.

Donald Trump’s fixation on his vanity wall and detaining immigrants en mass are a humanitarian tragedy driven by divisive fear-based tactics and lies. FIRM has been clear all along that any funding that supports Trump’s xenophobia is unacceptable.

Instead, we should focus on what really matters: Bold progressive solutions to our outdated immigration system that strengthens equal opportunity, treats immigrant families with respect and dignity, and keeps families together and free. We must ensure justice for those whose protections have been threatened or terminated under this administration, starting with DREAMers, TPS recipients, asylum seekers, immigrants without documents and unaccompanied minors.”
