Latest Court Ruling Renews Hope for DREAMers
For Immediate Release: April 25, 2018
(WASHINGTON)—Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement, FIRM, issued the statement below after a DC federal judge ordered the government to reopen the DACA program to new applicants:
“Judge Bates’ decision to order the government to reopen the DACA program to new applicants is yet another blow to the administration’s xenophobic agenda. Though DHS has 90 days to come up with a new argument for ending the program, we know what to expect: more racist attacks on immigrants. In the meantime, thousands of undocumented immigrant youth can continue to live the lives they have built and continue to reapply for DACA.
While the future of DACA plays out in the lower courts, Congress has a responsibility to the American people to pass a permanent solution that creates a pathway to citizenship for these young immigrants. Our fight continues and we will persist until all people of color feel welcomed in the country they call home.”
