On Wednesday, Senator Reid is bringing a vote to the senate floor asking the senators to vote yes or no for a future debate on immigration reform. We need to call our senators to let them know we want them to vote YES on Wedensday in support of a debate on comprehensive immigration reform. Wednesday’s vote in the senate is NOT on a specific piece of legislation- it is simply a vote on whether the senate will even have a debate on comprehensive immigration reform- we deserve our time for debate on the floor!
The House has made it clear that if the Senate is unable to reach bi-partisan leadership on immigration reform they will move no bill and our chances for change will be done for the next two years. We see our communities suffering, and we know we can’t wait for effective change.
Calls to our senators won’t be enough.
We need to send in op-eds and articles to our local papers, spread the word beyond our usual bases. This can seem like a big lift for most of us who have other jobs or are unable to devote our time to this, but the Coalition for Comprehensive Immigration Reform has put together some great materials to help make this easy. Find an example of an op-ed or letter to the editor and submit it to your local paper, and MORE.
