march 21 – Loitering bill out
Suffolk lawmakers defeat measure that would have hindered immigrant laborers gathering on streets

Suffolk lawmakers last night defeated a controversial anti-loitering bill aimed at immigrant day laborers who congregate along county roads to solicit work from passing motorists.
The 10-6 vote, with one abstention, came after hours of charged rhetoric from immigrant rights groups, civil libertarians, ministers and residents of Farmingville and other affected communities.
Congratulations! to all the folks who worked on this including the New York Immigration Coalition as well as the local Gamaliel Foundation Affiliate: LION!
