FIRM Calls on U.S. Senate to Defeat Anti-Immigrant Measure
(WASHINGTON)—The Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) vehemently opposes Sen. Susan Collins’ bill that would block the provisions in President Obama’s executive actions and separate millions of immigrant families. FIRM spokesperson Kica Matos said every U.S. Senator should vote to defeat the bill.
“This bill offers no solutions on how to fix our broken immigration system,” Matos said. “Instead, it would create more chaos and harm by separating millions of families, stripping immigration officials of their discretion, and taking away vital protections for victims of domestic violence.”
“Sen. Collins’ bill is bad for all immigrant families, the entire U.S. economy and our nation as a whole,” Matos added. “Republicans continually show their anti-immigrant agenda and extreme ideology by pushing measures like Sen. Collins’ bill that do little to move our country forward.”
“FIRM will not allow these attacks on our communities to continue and we urge all lawmakers to vote against anti-immigrant legislation that tears apart families,” Matos said. “Poll after poll has shown that the majority of Americans support immigration reform. It’s time for Republicans to stop playing political games when it comes to the lives of millions of families.”
