Groups Again Remind Key Republicans What’s At Stake for Them and Their Party if They Continue Blocking a Vote on Immigration Reform
WASHINGTON – As we draw closer to the immigration movement’s June 28th deadline for action on immigration reform by House Republicans, the nation’s largest immigrant-rights coalition, the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), joined with national partners, carrying out direct actions today in offices of key members of Congress, urging them to take action and stop separating families.
As part of the Stop Separating Families phase of action, FIRM groups are demanding that House Republicans take action on immigration reform, while demanding that President Obama act immediately to stop needless family separations occurring under his watch. Today, FIRM groups are leading or joining actions on House Republicans in Michigan, Colorado, Ohio, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Oregon, and Washington State.
Salvador Cervantes, spokesman for FIRM, released the following statement:
“Our families are as determined as ever in their clear to House Republicans and President Obama: Stop Separating Families. Every day that goes by means that hundreds of children become orphans because our broken immigration system works every day to separate families. Our families are being separated. We’ve taken bold action at the ballot box once and again, and this moral crisis demands immediate action. We will not stop until no child is in danger of losing a parent, and no family is under the threat of separation.”
