Support for Trump’s White Nationalist Enforcement Agenda a Non-starter
(WASHINGTON)—In response to recent Democratic leadership announcements of a deal on DACA, the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), the nation’s largest coalition of immigrant rights groups, issued the following statement:
“Immigrants are not a bargaining chip for politicians,” said FIRM spokesperson Kica Matos. “There cannot be a single dollar providing additional support for already out-of-control federal immigration agents. Immigrant communities are already under siege from Trump’s white nationalist agenda. Collaboration is not an option. Immigrant families have suffered enough and more enforcement is definitely not the answer.”
“Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi need to stand up and draw a line in the sand that prevents the GOP from using Dreamers to advance a racist anti-immigrant agenda,” Matos said. “And Republicans of good will on this issue of which there are many – you have a clear choice: stand with these young Americans or stand with the Steve Bannon wing of your party.”
“Dream Act, yes. Enforcement, no,” Matos said.
The Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) is the nation’s largest immigrant-rights coalition, with grassroots organizations fighting for immigrant rights at the local, state and federal level. For more information, go to www.fairimmigration.org or follow us on Twitter @Re4mImmigration.
