Tonight in Farmer’s Branch, TX the last city council meeting will take place before the citywide elections on the measure that would ban landlords from renting to undocumented immigrants.
Local advocates are asking officials, particularly the Mayor and two City Council members to speak their conscience, and come out of the shadows to oppose this anti-immigrant measure. Leaders from the community say that these officials have privately voiced their opposition to the measure, but that they are using pending lawsuits as an excuse not to take a public stand. We have seen similarly struggles to find leadership at the local level across the country. We hope that officials in Farmer’s Branch will look to their fellow elected officials of Pahrump, NV and Nashville, TN in rejecting this counter-productive, and anti-community measure.
