Senators Introduce Bill to Protect 320,000 Temporary Protected Status (TPS) Holders

Senators Introduce Bill to Protect 320,000 Temporary Protected Status (TPS) Holders

(WASHINGTON)— Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), issued the statement below after Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) introduced a new bill to protect TPS holders:

“The bill introduced today by Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) provides a permanent legislative solution with a path to citizenship for the more than 320,000 TPS holders who are facing uncertainty with upcoming TPS designation renewals, as well as those whose TPS status has been unjustly terminated. More importantly, this bill will keep families together in the communities they have built for years.

This legislation recognizes the urgency of this moment as hundreds of thousands of families’ lives hang in the balance. The Trump administration has already terminated TPS for Nicaragua and Sudan.

This bill compliments legislation that was introduced earlier this month in the House. It’s time for Congress to take the next step and pass bills to protect TPS holders. For years, and in some instances decades, these folks have been contributing to their communities. Congress needs to act now to pass a permanent solution and stop Trump’s ethnic cleansing agenda.”

Puppet Trump Fails to Stand Up To White Supremacists Again

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 2, 2017

Puppet Trump Fails to Stand Up To White Supremacists Again

(Washington)—Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), issued the following statement after reports broke that Trump rejected attaching a DACA fix to the year end spending bill:

“Trump has been holding DACAmented youth hostage for nearly two months, leaving these young immigrants in complete disarray. Spineless lawmakers need to do what’s right and stop using our lives as bargaining chips for political brownie points. Inaction is not an option. The majority of Americans want protection for these young immigrants by the end of the year. Congress needs to act and pass a clean Dream Act immediately!

Already 22,000 DACAmented youth are at risk of deportation because  Congress has failed to stand up to a White Supremacist agenda. Our message to legislators and the White House and Congressional Republicans is very clear: stop talking and get it together; Move now or you will forever have on your conscience the possible deportation and destruction of the lives and dreams of hundreds of thousands of young people.

The Trump administration began the year by attacking immigrants with enforcement executive orders and a Muslim ban and they are looking to close the year with extreme vetting, threats to the diversity visa system and leaving 800,000 young people at risk of deportation.

Enough is enough. We need to call these attacks on immigrants for what they are: racist. This is about making America white again, and pushing black and brown people into the shadows.”
