Outrageous Trump Plans to Separate More Families
(Washington)—Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), issued the statement below after reports broke that the Trump administration is planning to expand the number of federal immigration jails:
“More immigration detention centers means more families torn apart, more children left without their parents, and more disrupted communities. Trump took off his hood a long time ago and as a result more black and brown people are being aggressively criminalized and demonized. His plans to build more immigration jails is just another piece of his racist puzzle.
It is outrageous that this Administration would spend billions to fund the mass deportation agenda, while simultaneously pushing for cuts to programs that help people take care of their families, go see their doctors and put food on the table. Major corporations are the only entities who stand to profit from Trump’s hateful agenda. Big banks like JP Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo who finance private prisons will make billions of dollars off the pain of millions of people.
We demand that not a single dollar go toward separating families. We will continue to stand strong, arm in arm with our allies, to stop this deportation machine.

Trump Administration Keeps Dreamers Hostage, Pushes White Supremacy Agenda Further
Communities Across America to Trump: No Deal!
(Washington)—Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), issued the following statement after the White House released its immigration principles:
“The White House’s ‘immigration principles’ are nothing short of White Supremacists’ list of demands to ethnically cleanse the country and intimidate black and brown communities. The lives of 800,000 young people—young Americans—are hanging in the balance as Trump plays games with members of congress. This is not a reality show; this is real life.
The White Supremacist list of demands includes money for the border wall and hiring 10,000 more ICE agents and seeks to restrict options and due process for young children seeking asylum from dangerous conditions in their own countries. The White House wants to establish a merit-based immigration system to ‘protect American workers.’ However, the reality is that immigrants do not take jobs from Americans. Wealthy CEOs, like Trump and his children, who move jobs overseas, are the real job killers. Immigrants help grow and revitalize our economy and our communities across the country.
We cannot sit back as White Supremacists in the White House continue pushing their divisive agenda forward. Love trumps hate every single time. Make America White Again is not going to succeed because we are not going to stop building the resistance.”

Unmasked and Unafraid: Trump Launches Immigration Sweeps Targeting Sanctuary Cities
(Washington)—Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), issued the statement below after ICE conducted immigration sweeps in sanctuary cities across the country over the last couple of days in what federal officials are calling “Operation Safe Cities”:
“Donald Trump isn’t hiding his disdain for immigrants and black and brown communities behind a white hood. Time and time again he bows down to white supremacists, and boldly terrorizes our communities in heartless attacks that separate families. Over the last few days, ICE agents arrested 498 undocumented immigrants in sanctuary cities across the country in a move that will impact hundreds of communities for generations to come.
It is clear to us that Trump, ICE and the racists who make up the administration have one agenda: make America white again. Trump is deliberately punishing sanctuary cities for protecting their residents. It is appalling that the federal government would stoop to this new low. The immigration sweeps come on the heels of a new travel ban that bars entry to immigrants mostly from Muslim countries and of the announcement that the U.S. will cap the number of refugees it will accept. Earlier in the month, Trump ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that granted nearly 800,000 young immigrants the ability to freely contribute to their communities.
From coast to coast, progressive allies have come forward to stand with immigrants. The resistance is growing and we are not stopping until we have the protections we deserve.”
