No Ban, No Wall, No Raids
(WASHINGTON)— Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), issued the statement below after the Trump administration issued the newest travel ban:
“President Trump’s latest travel ban is more of the same: a xenophobic attack mostly on Muslim countries. The ban is indefinite and was expanded to include Chad, North Korea and Venezuela. It’s callous and undermines the values we treasure as a nation: opportunity, justice and freedom.
We will not back down now, or ever. Our message is clear: no ban, no wall and no raids. We will fight back against Trump’s xenophobic attacks until all black and brown and immigrant people have the beloved community we all deserve.”

Senate Republicans Join White Supremacists Ranks, Introduce Bigoted Immigration Bill
(WASHINGTON)— Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), issued the statement below after Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Senator James Lankford (R-OK) introduced the Succeed Act:
“Earlier this month, Donald Trump cowed to the demands of white supremacists and rescinded the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) memo that allowed nearly 800,000 young immigrants to live their lives, work and go to school without fear. His cruelty knows no bounds, and he is now using the lives of these DACAmented youths as a bargaining chip to advance a bigoted agenda to appease the racist-wing of the Republican Party.
The Succeed Act introduced today is more of the same: another bill brought forward by Republicans that continues to criminalize immigrant communities. The bill calls for the extreme vetting of immigrants, and restricts family reunification and legal migration.
We’ve seen this all before and we’re not going to stand for it. We demand that a clean Dream Act is brought to the floor for a vote. The overwhelming majority of the country is on our side. It’s time for Republicans to grow a spine, get on board and say no to bigotry.”

In TPS Decision for Sudan Trump’s Administration Continues to Side with White Supremacists
(WASHINGTON)— Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), issued the statement below after the Trump administration terminated Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Sudanese people:
“This cruel action by Trump’s Administration confirms their anti-Muslim sentiments. Nearly 1,000 Sudanese people who have built their lives in the United States for decades, will be sent back to Sudan. These families have deep roots in their communities. They are our friends and our neighbors.
TPS was created to help people facing unlivable conditions from war, environmental disasters and other harmful conditions. Ending this program is not reflective of who we are as a country: compassionate people who believe everyone should have a chance at living a fulfilled life.
We denounce the Administration’s decision and urge them to reverse it and renew TPS for the additional eight countries for the full 18 months. Republicans in Congress need to stand up for what’s right and protect communities with TPS.”
