Cruel, Callous Decision from SCOTUS on Muslim Ban
(WASHINGTON)— Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), issued the statement below after the Supreme Court ruled to reinstate parts of President Trump’s Muslim ban:
“The Supreme Court’s decision to allow a partial stay of Trump’s cruel Muslim ban is callous and confusing for the families whose lives now hang in the balance while the court hears the case and issues a final decision. Allowing parts of Trump’s bigoted Muslim ban to go into effect undermines everything we stand for as a country, evidenced by the outrage we saw when the order was first issued. We will not back down. We will continue to fight to protect our families in our communities and in the courts.”
Trump Administration Rolls Back DAPA Policy in Heartless Move
(WASHINGTON)— Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), issued the statement below after the Administration made an announcement about the DACA program:
“On the heels of the 5th anniversary of DACA, the Trump Administration announced what we already know: DACA recipients will continue to live their lives, contribute to their communities, go to school, work and take care of their families under their current DACA status. Simultaneously, the Administration revoked an Obama era policy memo that created the DAPA policy to keep parents with their children. The DAPA policy, originally created to protect the parents of U.S. citizen children, was held up in legal battles, preventing it from implementation and rescinding the memo was symbolic and cruel.
“Tearing families apart, uprooting their lives and stripping them from the communities they have built is not the way forward. It is not reflective of the values we profess as a country. Our fight continues and will not stop until every person can live their lives freely and outside of the shadows.”
Lee Francis Cissna’s Anti-Immigrant History Jeopardizes USCIS
(WASHINGTON)— Kica Matos, spokesperson for the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), issued the statement below after the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to approve Lee Francis Cissna’s nomination for United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director:
“Lee Francis Cissna has a track record of adopting anti-immigrant positions, including in his current role as director of immigration policy at the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Policy. It is no wonder that already hate groups such as the Center for Immigration Studies are salivating over this nomination. Instead of nominating a candidate who would uphold the neutrality of this agenda, Trump has instead nominated someone who will be more than willing to carry out his mass deportation agenda.
“To the Senators voting to move Cissna’s nomination closer to a confirmation: we are watching you. A vote for Cissna is a vote against families. USCIS should not be led by a xenophobe who is already playing a crucial role in Trump’s bigoted agenda.”
